Potret Pemikiran

Potret Pemikiran is an international peer-reviewed journal published biannually by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Manado in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Muslim Communities in Minahasa (PS3M). As of 2024, the journal has expanded its scope to address a broader global audience with a sharper focus on minority experiences in pluralistic societies.

Beginning with Issue Desember of 2024, the Journal of Potret Pemikiran concentrates on the critical exploration and in-depth analysis of socio-cultural phenomena within pluralistic societies, with particular emphasis on the dynamics of minority groups (ethnic, religious, racial, and inter-group) in majority contexts. The journal examines the complex interactions between minority groups and dominant social structures, processes of identity construction and negotiation, as well as manifestations of thought and culture emerging from these relationships.

The journal encompasses seven key areas:

1. Socio-cultural studies on minority-majority interactions
2. Analysis of public policies and political representation of minority groups
3. Research on the economy and social stratification of minority communities
4. Linguistic and intercultural communication studies
5. Social psychology research and identity dynamics of minority groups
6. Legal analysis and implementation of minority rights
7. Studies on multicultural and inclusive education

While prioritizing the aforementioned focus, Potret Pemikiran continues to accommodate articles on broader Social-Religious Thought, including philosophy, Sufism, religious politics, and the social conditions of religion.

With this new focus, Potret Pemikiran serves as a platform for international scholars, researchers, and practitioners to contribute to the discourse on social, cultural, and religious dynamics in diverse societies worldwide. The journal welcomes empirical research articles, literature reviews, critical essays, and relevant case studies. It particularly encourages interdisciplinary approaches and innovative methodologies that illuminate the complexities of minority experiences in contemporary society.

As an open-access journal, Potret Pemikiran is committed to disseminating high-quality research to a wide international readership, fostering global dialogue on issues of cultural diversity, social cohesion, and inclusive development. By bridging local insights with global perspectives, the journal aims to contribute to the development of more nuanced and inclusive paradigms in public policy, social practice, and academic discourse.

Through its new focus commencing in 2024, Potret Pemikiran strives to enhance understanding of the challenges and opportunities present in pluralistic societies, ultimately contributing to more informed and equitable social policies and practices worldwide.
