OBJEK BARU KAJIAN LIVING QURAN: STUDI MOTIF HIAS PUTRI MIRONG PADA BANGUNAN KERATON YOGYAKARTA

Abstract

Abstract: Most living Quran studies emphasize on the role of Quran in the society as a life motivation and inspiration. This article aims to discuss a new object of living Quran through the decorating motifs of Putri Mirong on the building structures of Yogyakarta palace. Data is collected through in-depth interviews with the palace residents.  Through historical and empirical data, the paper found that the legend reveals that the Putri Mirong motifs represent the existence of Nyi Roro Kidul (princess of the South Ocean) as a jin.  It is a motif is related to the flows of jin converting into Islam after hearing the Quran recitation from the prophet Muhammad. This is to say that all God’s creature should maintain the nature equilibrium as a part of environmental harmony preventing the planet from the social and ecological destruction. The paper concludes that the new object of the living Quran studies in this case is using Quranic verses as object to support their arguments.

Abstrak: Sebagian besar kajian living Quran menitikberatkan pada objek penerimaan Alquran di masyarakat sebagai sebuah motivasi atau inspirasi tertentu. Artikel ini mendiskusikan objek baru living Quran melalui motif hias Putri Mirong pada bangunan Keraton Yogyakarta. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam (indpeth interview) kepada pihak Keraton Yogyakarta. Dengan pendekatan historis–filosofis, argumentasi penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Putri Mirong merupakan perwujudan Ratu Kidul sebagai sosok jin. Bentuknya tersebut kemudian dihubungkan dengan peristiwa masuknya para jin ke dalam Islam secara berbondong-bondong setelah mendengarkan bacaan Alquran oleh Rasulullah. Hal ini bermakna bahwa sesama makhluk ciptaan Allah (manusia, jin dan alam semesta) harus saling menjaga keseimbangan sebagai wujud harmonisasi, supaya tidak terjadi kerusakan baik di darat maupun di lautan sebagaimana dilukiskan dalam Alquran. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan objek baru kajian living Quran pada penelitian ini adalah dilekatkannya nilai-nilai Qurani terhadap sebuah objek tertentu untuk dijadikan sebagai sebuah argumentasi.
