Journal History

Potret Pemikiran is an international peer-reviewed journal registered underĀ ISSN 1693-1874 (Print) and ISSN 2528-0376. Published biannually by the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Manado, Indonesia, this journal has evolved into a global platform for the cross-cultural exchange of ideas and research in the field of socio-religious thought.

Since its inception in 1996, Potret Pemikiran has undergone significant evolution, reflecting changes in the global academic landscape. The journal's focus has evolved over time, mirroring global research trends:

  1. Until 2018: The journal encompassed various fields including political science, law, economics, education, and religion, attracting academic interest from diverse countries.
  2. 2019-2023: The focus shifted to Social-Religious Thought, bridging local and global discourses on philosophy, Sufism, religious politics, and social conditions of religion.
  3. Beginning with Issue 2 of 2024: The journal now concentrates on the critical exploration and in-depth analysis of socio-cultural phenomena within pluralistic societies, with particular emphasis on the dynamics of minority groups (ethnic, religious, racial, and inter-group) in majority contexts. It examines the complex interactions between minority groups and dominant social structures, processes of identity construction and negotiation, as well as manifestations of thought and culture emerging from these relationships.

It is important to note that while this new focus takes priority, Potret Pemikiran continues to accommodate articles on Social-Religious Thought, bridging local and global discourses on philosophy, Sufism, religious politics, and social conditions of religion. However, articles addressing "the critical exploration and in-depth analysis of socio-cultural phenomena within pluralistic societies, with particular emphasis on the dynamics of minority groups (ethnic, religious, racial, and inter-group) in majority contexts" will be given priority for publication.

This new focus strengthens Potret Pemikiran's position as an international forum for comparative studies on minority-majority dynamics across the globe. The journal invites contributions from global scholars researching:

  1. Socio-cultural studies on minority-majority interactions.
  2. Analysis of public policies and political representation of minority groups.
  3. Research on the economy and social stratification of minority communities.
  4. Linguistic and intercultural communication studies.
  5. Social psychology research and identity dynamics of minority groups.
  6. Legal analysis and implementation of minority rights.
  7. Studies on multicultural and inclusive education.

Potret Pemikiran adheres to international editorial standards with an advisory board and reviewers from various countries. The use of English as the primary language of publication, with bilingual abstracts (English and Indonesian), expands its global reach.

Indexed in various international academic databases and utilizing the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) system prefix 10.30984, Potret Pemikiran ensures global visibility and accessibility for researchers and readers worldwide.

The Sinta 3 accreditation obtained in 2020 not only recognizes its national standards but also positions the journal within the network of international academic publications.

With its new focus, Potret Pemikiran aims to become a primary source of insights into the dynamics of minority groups in a global context, fostering cross-cultural understanding and international dialogue in the field of socio-religious thought, while maintaining its relevance in the broader discourse of social-religious thought.
